We are pleased to introduce cutting edge biotechnology that uses completely ‘green’ methods to keep your home clean and safe - and your reputation gleaming.
Chemex’s exclusive Chemzyme product range uses friendly bacteria to digest body fluid spills that can soak into carpets and floorboards over time, causing odours that traditional products can’t shift. It’s easy, it’s safe, it’s environmentally friendly and it’s cost effective. You already understand the importance of making sure that residents and their families feel completely comfortable in your establishment. Thousands of delighted customers already trust Chemex to help them provide the perfect environment for residents and their guests alike. Find out how the Chemzyme range can be implemented into your existing routines today:
Chemzyme Plus New biological cleaning technology – no harsh chemicals Long lasting deodourising effects Uses nature’s systems to eliminate body fluids and wastes Enzymatic action, using naturally occurring bacteria Non- hazardous Biodegradable
Chemzyme Plus can be used on hard and soft surfaces to effectively clean and deodorise. The system continues to work long after application giving a residual benefit - and saves you time and cost. Chemzyme Plus will work on carpets, floorboards, and soft furnishings to combat the smell of urine and other soiling. It acts quickly to eliminate the causes of foul smells and works organically to remove any waste matter in the carpet pile.
It works just as effectively on hard flooring too. There is no need to rinse as the Chemzyme Plus continues to digest dirt and grease as the floor dries. Chemzyme Plus is a concentrated solution of naturally-occurring bacteria and enzymes using biological processes for multi-surface cleaning. It effectively combines biodegradable surfactants, a fresh fragrance and beneficial bacterial strains which digest organic debris at source. The microbes in Chemzyme Plus effectively penetrate porous surfaces and establish a self-renewing biofilm deep inside inaccessible surfaces. Chemzyme Plus successfully performs many functions – it cleans, refreshes, eliminates organic waste build up and deodorises by destroying the source of bad odours rather than trying to mask them.
For more information on how Chemzyme Plus can be used in your establishment please call Chemex on 0121 565 6300 or download the brochure.
CHEMEX LINKS WITH ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICERS TO LAUNCH HYGIENE CAMPAIGN TO FOOD SECTOR
Hygiene specialist Chemex is working with environmental health departments across the country as part of a campaign to help restaurants and food producers run safe and successful businesses.
Chemex in conjunction with EHOs are staging a series of focus groups across the UK for butchers and meat producers to provide them with the latest information on hygiene systems and food safety standards.
At the same time Chemex is running roadshows with a number of environmental health departments to brief them on new developments in hygiene products and how they work.
Chemex is Europe’s leading supplier of hygiene and cleaning products and supply thousands of catering establishments and food producers across the UK with products and advice.
Chemex Commercial Director Sean Derrig said: “Chemex and environmental health departments share a common goal in wanting to help caterers and food producers to maintain the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
“There have been significant developments in the science behind hygiene products and these roadshows are helping to keep EHOs fully appraised of these advances.
“Similarly our network of franchisees are benefiting from lectures and advice from senior EHOs which is helping us to ensure that we are providing the most effective service to our customers. “
Mr Derrig added: “As far as I am aware this is the first time there has been such close co-operation between hygiene suppliers and EHOs. It is an exciting development and one which I’m sure will bring major benefits to all those involved in preparing and serving food.”
The joint venture started initially through a link up with EHOs at Cheshire West and Chester Council with Food Safety Manager Mark Green being invited to address the Chemex annual conference.
Mr Green said:”This initiative was prompted by the work being undertaken in butchers shops by Environmental Health officers across the country. This was in response to the Pennington report into the South Wales E.coli 0157 outbreak.
“The training days proved invaluable and the information sharing from both sides highlighted our common goals in ensuring food safety.
“The feedback from my officers was extremely positive and we have subsequently held a series of seminars for our butchers where the advice and guidance was disseminated. Again this was well received by the business proprietors themselves. I have no doubt that this initiative will prove beneficial in maintaining and improving standards in all food businesses in the future. “
Swine Flu Reaches Malta
As swine flu becomes more widespread in Malta, schools, airports and public sector establishments are taking precautions to keep swine flu at bay. The emphasis is on preventiaon and alcohol-based hand rubs are being made available at some schools. As organisations struggle to cope with protecting their staff, students and visitors, the sale of suitable and effective cleaning and hygiene products has risen.
Chemex Malta have seen orders for hand rubs and cleaning agents that tackle swine flu rise to such an extent that shipments of stock are sold as soon as they come off the container. Chemex has been established in Malta since 1997. Originally under the ownership of three partners, Mario Fava subsequently took over the business five years later. Trading under the name of Fava Catering Supplies Ltd, this is very much a family owned business which is now over ten years old. The company has recently moved into new and larger premises.
An article in the Times of Malta recently highlighted the problems organisations are facing. Link: Stress on hygiene as swine flu appears in Malta

CHEMEX HELPS COMPANIES TO BOOST THEIR GREEN CREDENTIALS
Europe’s leading supplier of commercial cleaning and hygiene products is helping companies to win business by boosting their green credentials.
Corporate social responsibility is now high on the agenda with more and more companies recognising it as a major business driver. Customers, suppliers, investors and the community are all looking for environmental responsibility in companies they deal with.
But Chemex International, which provides businesses with cleaning products through across the UK and Europe, is committed to a green approach helping its customers to reduce their impact on the environment.
“Companies are becoming increasingly conscious of the environmental impact of their everyday business,” said Melvin Lusty Chemex Managing Director.
“There is also a growing need for companies to provide evidence of their green approach in order to continue to be successful.” Chemex supplies concentrated products containing less water, which means reduced transport volume, reduced packaging, reduced carbon and reduced cost.
With no compromise on performance, Chemex products contain alkali builders where appropriate and acidic compounds where necessary and none of the ingredients causes any issues when the used cleaning solutions are flushed down the drain.
The organic ingredients are biodegradable and the inorganic ingredients become environmentally inert during use; while the pH factor when diluted is also acceptable for disposal to the public drainage system.
Chemex does not supply products (even concentrates) which are labelled with the dead fish/dead tree symbol or which carry risk warnings like ‘hazardous to the environment’.
“We supply a vast range of products and we make sure they are as environmentally sustainable as possible and that helps maintain the green credentials of the companies who use them,” said Mr Lusty.
“Attention to social, environmental and economic aspects of business activity is increasing. Firms that do not buy in to the idea of corporate social responsibility will find fewer trading partners; consumers will stop buying their products; local communities could withdraw their support and investors will stop buying their stock. Good corporate citizenship makes good business sense.”

CHEMEX PROVIDING PROTECTION AGAINST H1N1 AS WARNINGS ISSUED OF UK PANDEMIC
Cases of the virus H1N1 - misleadingly called swine flu – continue to escalate in the UK with forecasts that the virus will spread rapidly this autumn.
The Department of Health reported on May 31st that the cases had now reached 200 with more expected.
This view was reinforced by Prof John Oxford of Queen Mary School of Medicine, University of London who was reported in The Daily Telegraph as saying there was likely to be a flu pandemic as autumn begins. He warned that a pandemic was likely to affect the UK before a vaccine becomes available, adding that the vaccine - which is expected to be ready in October or November - would only cover about 15 per cent of the population.
The World Health Authority has raised the level of pandemic alert to five – one below the level for an actual pandemic outbreak.
The good news for Chemex customers is that we have a range of products that will all kill the virus and help businesses build up a defensive shield against it.
Chemex has a comprehensive range of disinfectants and hand hygiene products. Some businesses have started a regime of supplying hand sanitizing gels for their meeting rooms to stop the spread of the virus through shaking hands.
Our products include FAD, Bacticlean, Bacticlean XTRA and Bacteria X . These are all based on quats and will easily kill this type of virus. Use these products at the normal in-use dilutions. Spray on and wipe off to clean and sanitise hard surfaces.
The virus is also killed by products such as Bactiwipes, Safe Hands and Safe Wash and by alcohols such as ABC.
These products are in high demand and we recommend ordering in advance to ensure guaranteed supply.
The Health Protection Agency’s advice is that good general infection control practices and good respiratory hand hygiene can help to reduce transmission of all viruses, including H1N1. This includes:
• Stay at home if you have flu-like symptoms • Covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue when possible • Disposing of dirty tissues promptly and carefully • Maintaining good basic hygiene, for example washing hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to face or to other people • Cleaning hard surfaces (e.g. door handles) frequently using a suitable sanitiser • Making sure your children follow this advice.

In the healthcare and hospitality industry it is essential, it is a legal requirement that, for example, food-preparation premises and the equipment used in food processes are kept clean. Maintaining and promoting good cleaning standards cannot be left to chance. To be effective, cleaning must be carried out in an systemised manner.
The benefits of efficient and effective cleaning are:
· Risk of food contamination is reduced
· Customers, not pests are attracted
· Reduction in the potential for accidents and
· Your staff will find your business a more pleasant place to work in.
Your business will benefit from improved hygiene and cleaning standards in the workplace in many ways, for example a reduction in the incidence of occupational illness will directly reflect in a reduction of workforce absence-related costs. Laundry tips for your staff and your business
Preparation: Empty pockets, turn down cuffs on shirts, close all zips, poppers and hooks.
Sorting: Read and follow care labels. Separate dark colours from light colours and whites. Sort delicate fabrics from heavier ones. Sort by temperature to ensure best results and never exceed the temperature on the fabric care label. Wash very dirty clothes separately (dirt can pass onto less soiled clothes in the washing machine).
Loading Over-loading doesn’t allow clothes to tumble properly in the drum, thereby reducing the agitation. This will lead to reduced cleaning performance.
Temperature Wash water temperature directly affects cleaning and creasing. The correct choice of water temperature can also minimize dye transfer from unstable colours. Check your garment care labels for recommended wash temperature.
Unloading Once the wash cycle has finished, the garments should be removed and dried as soon as possible. Leaving clothes damp can lead to problems such as bad smells or even mildew. Load your dryer so clothes can circulate. Over-loading can result in excessive creasing.

Chemex International Franchisees - October 2008

A gathering of 4 of the Chemex International team took place in October. The overseas visitors represented Denmark, Ireland, Malta and Cyprus. Several guest speakers from both within Chemex and externally, spoke on variousl topics relating to business overseas and the expansion of overseas markets.
The group consists of established overseas master licensees. These are successful businesses that have been built over a number of years by local entrepreuners who understand their local marketplace. Chemex Malta is headed by husband and wife team Mario and Sandra Fava, Ireland is represented by Colm Clarke and Cyprus by Andreas Protopapas, a keen Chelsea football club supporter. Denmark owner John Lindgaard also brought one of his franchisees, Orla Kristensen, with him to the meeting.
Staff at Chemex thoroughly enjoyed the visit which gave them chance to meet up with the overseas franchisees and chat with them over lunch and between breaks on the two day event held at the Chemex head office in Smethwick. The general consensus of opinion seemed to be that events such as this should be organised on a more regular basis. Andreas suggested that the next one be held in Cyprus. Now that is a nice thought.
The sharing of ideas and discussions between international representatives was informative, very useful for everyone, and extremely positive and constructive. We look forward to the next international meeting and wish everyone a successful year and an even more fruitful 2009.

In The Spotlight– New Protect Pro Handcare Range for 2008
This year Chemex are launching four complementary products to cater for all your handcare needs. If you would like more information about this new range please contact your local franchisee. Poor hand hygiene is one of the most common means of transmission for pathogens such as E. coli and MRSA. But hand hygiene isn’t just vital for healthcare staff. Many infections can be passed between hands and food or hands and surfaces. Many bacteria can continue to survive on surfaces such as worktops and door handles while they wait for you to pick them up. Good hand hygiene is critical when preparing food, before meals and snacks, after using the toilet, when hands are generally dirty or when you or someone around you is ill.
