Our range of chemical products are designed to minimize hazards as much as possible; however, it is our policy to advise our clients of any inherent hazards that might be involved in their handling. In order to conform to the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), we are required to advise you of the recommended hazards that may arise from such handling are kept to a minimum. Our products, therefore, have been classified into 10 groups according to their nature and potential risk. Full details concerning the safe use of the materials are provided on this and the relevant category charts. In general, a chemical product may be toxic or irritant due to:
(a) contact with skin (b) Inhalation of dust, gases, vapours or spray aerosols (c) Ingestion (d) Contact with eyes
The following precautions, therefore, should be taken when handling chemicals, whether or not of our own manufacture:
(a) Avoid skin contamination. When handling chemicals, apply barrier cream and wear protective gloves. (b) Wash any accidental skin contamination with water. Hands should be washed thoroughly before eating, drinking or smoking to avoid any chemicals being transferred to the mouth and ingested. For hygiene reasons, employees should be encouraged to wash their hands before as well as after visiting the toilet. (c) Care must be taken to avoid ingestion of chemicals. (d) When handling chemicals goggles must be worn to protect the eyes from accidental splashes. Irrigate any contamination immediately with plenty of water. If there is any suspicion the eye has damage seek medical attention. (e) When using chemicals by spray or in open tanks, ensure adequate ventilation.
Health & Safety Classifications Where relevant, goods supplied are labelled with precautionary details pertaining to safe use. However, users should be familiair with the details of remedial treatment contained on this chart. To simplify the instructions for the safe handling of products, we have classified them into groups accoring to (a) their chemical nature and (b) their basic properties from a health and safety point of view. The product classifications shown below indicate how the groups are designed.
A - Mildly alkaline solutions (ph<12) B - Alkaline solutions (ph>12) C - Acidic solutions D - Substantially neutral solution (ph 6-8) E - Solvent based products Flash point >32c F - Solvent based products containing aliphatic hydrocarbons G - Highly flammable solvent based products >32c H - Solvent based paint strippers containing chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons J - Miscellaneous products including oxidising agents, biologically active chemicals and poisons K - Aerosols
