Products in this classification are all solvent based and contain varying amounts of chlorinated aliphatic solvents. They are either non flammable or of low flammability. Yet because of risk of toxic vapours should not be used near naked flames and red heat sources; nor should smoking be allowed when products are being used. Chlorinated solvents can weaken rubber so protective gloves and clothing should be made from PVC
Safe Handling 1 Do not take by mouth 2 Avoid inhalation of vapours and spray mists. Use only in well ventilated areas 3 Avoid prolonged skin contact. Wear protective clothing (including gloves) 4 Avoid eye contact. Wear goggles to prevent splashes entering the eyes.
First aid – in the event of: 5 Swallowing – Discourage vomiting: give plenty of water or milk to drink. Seek immediate medical attention 6 Exposure to fumes and vapours – Remove affected person to fresh air and keep warm. Seek medical attention if badly affected. Apply artificial respiration if necessary 7 Skin Contact – Can result in the loss of natural oils from the skin, leading in severe cases, to cracking. Wash thoroughly and treat with hand cream or calamine lotion. Seek medical attention in instances of severe or long term effects 8 Eye contact – Irrigate thoroughly with clean water for 15 minutes. Seek immediate medical attention for any adverse affects. 9 Storage – Ensure that containers are stored in such a position as to minimise the risk of damage 10 Spillages – Wash away small spillages with water in conjunction with an emulysifing agent. Larger spillages should either be pumped away or absorbed with sand, sawdust or absorbent granules and disposed of in waste bin NB : Because of the possibility of hazardous vapours when dealing with spillages ensure that the area is effectively ventilated
